247th Tricycle Distributed in Lohawat
Elderly beneficiaries testing their new tricycles for the first time at Lohawat.
It was a sunrise of a different kind in the dusty lanes of Lohawat today. As the morning mist cleared, 45 elderly individuals, many of whom hadn't walked without pain for years, gathered at the community center. Today marked a historic milestone for Ujala Charitable Foundation: our 247th tricycle distribution.
More Than Just Wheels
For Sohan Lal, a 72-year-old daily wage worker who lost his mobility to a chronic joint condition, this tricycle represents more than just a piece of engineering. "It represents my freedom," he says, his hands weathered by decades of labor now gripping the handles of his new ride. "I can now reach the market independently. I don't have to wait for my sons to carry me."
"Freedom is the most precious gift we can give to our elders. A tricycle is often the difference between isolation and dignity."
A Shared Victory
This distribution was made possible by the collective generosity of our global donor community. From a ₹500 contribution to the full sponsorship of a tricycle at ₹3,500, every rupee played its part. Our team spent two weeks surveying households in Lohawat to identify those in most critical need, ensuring that the 45 tricycles went to those who had zero other options for mobility.
Looking ahead, we aim to cover 50 more villages in the Phalodi district by the end of 2025. With 172,000 community members supporting us on Instagram and beyond, we are confident that the next milestone—the 500th tricycle—is just around the corner.
